If you are like most people in the winter, you probably have a hard time getting motivated. Maybe you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning to go to school, or work. These past few weeks I have made it a goal to take the best care of myself that I possibly can, which is especially important since I am sick and in the middle of my semester AND in the middle of track season! There are many things that I have to pay close attention to to make sure I am feeling good throughout the day and keeping my energy. Here are some quotes that I have discovered that go hand in hand with the necessary actions of self care.
“Put yourself at the top of your to-do list every single day, and the rest will fall into place.” Be aware that if you don’t take good care of yourself, the activities that you participate in will be affected. YOU should be your number one priority at all times.
“Wellness is the complete integration of the body, mind, and spirit. The realization that everything we do, think, feel, and believe has an effect on our state of well-being.” It’s important to work yourself physically and mentally in order to be the best you that you can be. I 100% believe that a long walk or an easy run is a great way to just get away, and practice mindfulness at the same time. Yoga works, as well. These are perfect activities to take care of your body and work your mind, and some may agree that it will free your spirit. If you are spiritual, pray, read a devotional or meditate.
“Water is the driving force of all nature.” Stay. Hydrated. If you don’t drink enough water your body will literally dry up and wilt — like a flower does. Water is just so beneficial for your skin, hair, weight… I can tell on days that I don’t get enough water that I just don’t feel right the next day.
“You gotta nourish to flourish!” Eating frequently and healthily is something that I really struggle with sometimes. Some of you may be thinking, “Uhhh, how can you forget to eat?” Well. It’s super easy (but BAD) to skip breakfast. Wake up, get dressed and head out at 8 am… who has time to sit down and eat? Something that I notice about myself is that when I make to-do lists for myself, I don’t add eating to it! So I am just going through the motions and before I know it I am out of energy and realize that I skipped lunch. It’s normal for busy people, but it is a flaw! Eat eat eat.
“If it feels wrong, don’t do it.” There are so many times where I get up and I feel way too tired and I can just tell I need to rest. Listen to what your body tells you! If you are trying to workout everyday, by all means do so, but if you can feel deep down that you need a break, TAKE A BREAK! This is another flaw of mine. I worry about getting behind or being a disappointment… but if you don’t take care of yourself, the likelihood of having a set back is way more likely.
“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.” Sometimes you just need to chill. Stop running around all day and pleasing everyone else. Stop worrying about what grade you’re going to get on a homework assignment that you won’t even remember existed in 3 months from now, and just take a freakin’ bath already. Or just sit and talk to your friend. Or a stranger. Just chill bro! It’s all good!
“You owe yourself the love that you so freely give to other people.” Think of yourself as your own puppy. Visualize how you would care for your sweet puppy. Make sure to take it out for some air, give it plenty of food and water, surround it with tons of love. Make sure it gets enough hugs and kisses. And don’t forget to put it down for a nap, because we all know how restless puppies can be. If you love yourself like you’d love your puppy, then life will love you too!
Stay well to excel loves. If you’re not well, your productivity and results are likely to suffer!
